Why Take This Course?

This introductory course on concussions is presented by a board-certified sports medicine physician. In this essential module, the physician will provide a surgeon's perspective on the critical aspects of concussion care, guiding you through the process of assessing, managing, and treating concussions, as well as safely assisting individuals in their return to activity and play. This course serves as an excellent precursor to the Healthclick series of concussion courses, each of which delves deeper into specific rehabilitation strategies and demonstrates comprehensive evaluation and treatment approaches for optimizing functional recovery after a concussion. This course is applicable for any medical professional who encounters patients with concussions, specifically for PT, PTA, OT, AT, MD, LPN, RN, and NP.

Upon successful completion of this course, the rehab professional will be able to:

  • Identify standard mechanisms of injury for concussion.
  • Identify skull fractures and associated symptoms.
  • Discuss proper evaluation techniques for concussion diagnosis.
  • Discuss the clinical implications of Second Impact Syndrome.
  • Identify appropriate pharmacologic interventions for symptom mitigation and contra-indicated medications in concussion management.
  • Utilize important tools to assess cognitive and functional abilities.
  • Develop structured return-to-activity and return-to-play programs.
  • Identify the importance of preseason baseline neurocognitive testing for athletes.
  • Identify the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach for successful return to activities and activities of daily living (ADLs).
