Advanced Evaluation and Treatment for the Functional Rehabilitation of the Foot and Ankle

North American Seminars Course Outline

This intermediate, two-day, evidence-based continuing education course provides the clinician with practical and useful knowledge for evaluation and treatment of dysfunctions related to the foot and ankle. This course provides an exciting format for foot and ankle education. Dr. Bailey, integrates assessments across several areas of specialization including joint mobilization, flexibility, strengthening activities and pedorthics. Lower extremity biomechanical alignment, pathomechanics and differential diagnosis are thoroughly addressed throughout the two days and form the foundation for evidence based treatment options.

Laboratory sessions will enable the participants to learn static and functional evaluation and screening techniques. Individualized attention is provided so the participants can enhance manual techniques in palpation, motion testing, and soft tissue mobilization/manipulation. Treatment plans for pre and post op management, plantar fasciitis, posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, as well as forefoot disorders such as metatarsalgia are discussed in detail. Pedorthics instruction focuses on the indications for foot orthotics and specific shoe recommendations.

The course manual provides written descriptions, illustrations, selected post/preoperative protocols, evaluation forms as well as examples of suggested treatments. Case studies and group discussions will be utilized to ensure that the participant can implement learned techniques in the clinical setting. The skills learned in this course will have immediate application within the clinical environment.

This course is designed for physical therapy continuing education and occupational therapy continuing education
