Northwest Hospital & Medical Center


Northwest Hospital and Medical Center opened its doors in 1960. Today it is a full service non-profit community hospital located north of downtown Seattle, WA. The hospital employs approximately 1600 employees and offers private rooms to all of its patients. The hospital was recently recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the United States. HealthGrades®, the leading independent healthcare ratings company, names Northwest Hospital among the top 5% of hospitals in the United States for patient safety. Forty-one of Northwest Hospital's physicians were recently recognized as the top doctors by Seattle Magazine.

Rehab Programs

The hospital offers a full range of medical rehabilitation services. Presently, the facility has a CARF-accredited, 24-bed inpatient unit. This unit can provide twenty-four hour rehab care. In addition, this unit provides support to patients that require acute rehabilitation. The Hospital features inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, an extensive wound care center, cardiac rehab and a program called Easy Street.

Highlights of The Northwest Hospital Rehabilitation Program

Inpatient Rehabilitation Overview

Northwest Hospital commonly treats stroke, hip fractures, amputations, joint replacements, neurological impairment, brain injury, trauma and arthritis. In order to provide a high degree of care to facilitate treatment the hospital offers 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care. The staff of rehabilitation physicians compliments the physical and occupational therapy team. Speech language services, therapeutic recreation, spiritual support, rehabilitation psychology, and the Easy Street Therapy environment complete the total care delivery system.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Overview

Northwest Hospital provides industrial rehab program, a lymphedema program, The Parkinson's Interdisciplinary Program, Safety and Gait Enhancement program, speech language services, vestibular rehab services and an upper extremity hand & arm program in their comprehensive outpatient rehab program.

Industrial Rehabilitation

The Industrial Rehabilitation Program focuses on three major areas. The first area is work-conditioning. This program has been designed to increase strength and the physical endurance required for a patient to return to work. This is a dynamic program that is tailored to the individual needs of the patient. In support of the work conditioning program is the work hardening services. Through the creation of individualized job specific therapy patients can realize therapy gains that will assist them in returning to work stronger and more capable. The success of these two programs is effectively assessed on a patient-by-patient basis through the rehabilitation department's Physical Capacity Evaluation Program. This program will assess physical strength, joint flexibility and endurance following an accident or injury

The Northwest Hospital Lymphedema Program

This is a specialized program focused on the management of patients with lymphedema. In addition to an extensive patient education program, this program focuses on the latest therapeutic management techniques for lymphedema management. Specially trained therapists evaluate lymphedema patients and create an individualized treatment program for the lymphedema patient.

The Parkinson's Interdisciplinary Program

The Northwest Hospital PIP program begins with an assessment by a physical therapist, occupational therapist and a speech language specialist. Once an evaluation has taken place, the team creates an individualized program for each patient. The goal of this program is to enable patients to live independently and have the highest quality of life

Vestibular Program

This program is designed to assist patients that suffer from dizziness due to inner ear or neurological problems.

Upper Extremity Hand & Arm Program

This program can treat fractures, arthritis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve and tendon injuries, weakness of an arm or hand following stroke in addition to other conditions of the upper extremity.
